Strike ballot opens at University of Aberdeen

Staff in dispute over possible changes to languages provision that threaten job cuts, says union

Staff at the University of Aberdeen are being balloted for strike action in a dispute over potential job losses in its modern languages department.

The ballot opened on 4 January in response to the university considering proposals that would bring an end to single honours degrees in modern languages. The University and College Union says the plan would place 30 people at risk of redundancy. More than 15,000 people have signed a petition calling on the university to abandon the plans.
