The Research Excellence Framework steering committee has announced a pilot exercise for the expanded people, culture and environment section of the next REF. The announcement was expected after researchers expressed concern that a pilot had not been put in place. Last year the assessment exercise was put back from 2028 to 2029 to allow for more in-depth testing. The steering group has commissioned a project to develop the PCE indicators to be used, with a shortlist due for consultation by April. The pilot’s outcomes will be published in July next year.
