Record number of women apply for UK computing degrees

Application rate has risen 10 per cent this year, according to British Computer Society analysis

A record number of women have applied to study computing at degree level in the UK this year, rising 10 per cent compared with 2023, the latest applications data shows.

Admissions body Ucas’s figures for January show 18,880 applications from 18-year-old women to study computing at university in 2024-25, compared with 17,140 last year, according to an analysis by BCS, the Chartered Institute for IT.
