Strike ballot at Northumbria over £12.5m staffing cuts

University of Winchester also contemplating industrial action over redundancy proposals

University and College Union members at the University of Northumbria are to be balloted for strike action against plans that could result in redundancies at the Newcastle-based institution.

The UCU said management at Northumbria had refused to rule out compulsory redundancies as part of plans to make £12.5 million of staffing cuts. The ballot is open until 26 April.
