Welsh cabinet
Jeremy Miles, who unsuccessfully campaigned to lead Welsh Labour and become first minister of Wales, has been given a cabinet role that oversees R&D and innovation. Miles was beaten to the top leadership spot last month by Vaughan Gething, who has now given Miles his former role of economy minister, adding energy to the brief. Miles’s responsibilities, confirmed on 4 April, include the development of science policy; research and innovation; knowledge transfer and commercialisation; “maximising research and innovation income”; and research centres of excellence. Other cabinet appointments include Huw Irranca-Davies taking charge of climate change and rural affairs, Eluned Morgan taking health and social care and Lynne Neagle taking education.
