Horizon Europe successor
Universities are pushing for the UK government to commit to the EU’s next research and innovation programme as early as possible. UK institutions were overjoyed when the country finally associated to the EU’s research funding programme Horizon Europe in 2024, after three years of being locked out due to political disputes following Brexit. But University of Stirling vice-chancellor Gerry McCormac has warned that the battle is “not yet won” as the UK still needs to commit to Horizon Europe’s successor scheme. He told the European University Association’s conference in Swansea, Wales, last month that the vice-chancellors’ group Universities UK and individual institutions are trying to persuade the UK government to commit to engaging with the EU on the successor scheme, currently known as Framework Programme 10.
