Stem investigation
A group of MPs has launched a project to investigate equality, diversity and inclusion strategies in UK science, technology, engineering and mathematics. The project from the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Diversity and Inclusion in Stem, chaired by Labour MP and shadow science minister Chi Onwurah, will analyse the EDI strategies of Stem organisations, businesses and higher education institutions. On 9 May the British Science Association, which provides the secretariat for the APPG, said the project will address the narrow nature of gathered data for EDI, which it said is “typically quantitative” and so “doesn’t capture any of the emotional and personal drawbacks of working in Stem”.
