Academia can no longer afford to ignore bullying

Victims’ increased willingness to speak out means that institutions fail to tackle abusive behaviour at their peril, says Petra Boynton.

In July, Nazneen Rahman resigned her professorship at the Institute of Cancer Research following bullying complaints from current and former staff members.

Rahman, who denies the allegations, stood down after an investigation commissioned by the ICR concluded that there was sufficient evidence for some of the allegations to be considered by a disciplinary hearing.
