It is the time of year for lists. We at the Institute for Scientific Information can’t help you if your Christmas wish list includes a new linear accelerator, but we can tell you what researchers were looking for in 2019 when they logged on to the Web of Science publications database.

Researchers around the world carry out hundreds of thousands of Web of Science searches every day. This is a select group of punters, and they’re not looking for maps or pizza.
