A steadying hand for a ship in choppy waters

The quality-related funding rise is significant despite its modesty

The phrase ‘any port in a storm’ is increasingly apt as Brexit approaches. Following the ferry-less ferry company fiasco, the government has now rushed out a call for £3 million in extra freight capacity to transport medicines in the event of a no-deal Brexit, in a move which will be closely tracked by life sciences companies. But one particular port offered to researchers last week, in the form of increased funding for quality-related research, featured highly on many universities’ desired havens from economic uncertainty.
