Elections 2021: the stakes for universities

   

As Britain heads to the polls, Chris Parr and Fiona McIntyre on where universities figure

It is election day. Or more accurately, it is elections day, plural, with more than 400 separate ballots taking place across the UK today.

The highest-profile is the by-election in Hartlepool, where a Labour candidate has been victorious in every parliamentary election since 1964. According to internal polls, external polls and the word on the street, that is set to change today, with a Conservative gain on the cards.
