It is problematic that Asian countries such as Singapore and China, and several European nations, have highly accomplished scientists in top of key government positions, but the same cannot be said about the US, according to an op-ed in The New York Times by John Allen Paulos, a Temple University mathematics professor.
Paulos pointed out that the 435 members of the House of Representatives include one physicist, one chemist, one microbiologist, six engineers and nearly two dozen representatives with medical training.
