NIH success rate hits new low
The percentage of successful applications for National Institutes of Health grants fell to 18 per cent in 2011, its lowest ever, the biomedical research agency said. Several factors contributed to the drop, including an 8 per cent increase in the number of grant applications, which reached a record level of almost 50,000 in fiscal year 2011, said Sally Rockey, NIH’s deputy director for extramural research.
