Universities protest against House plans for NIH
A House appropriations subcommittee bill that funds the National Institutes of Health would restrict the agency’s ability to “distribute funding effectively based on the best science and public health”, say academic research groups. The groups, including the Association of American Universities, attacked the bill’s “arbitrary boundaries” on NIH grants, which include a minimum size for some clinical grants and a blanket ban for research in economics. The bill would have to be agreed by the full House and the Senate to proceed into law.
