The US and the Russian Federation have formally deepened their scientific cooperation in Antarctica with the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in Vladivostok, Russia, on 8 September.
At the signing ceremony, secretary of state Hillary Clinton called Antarctica “a continent with vast opportunities for research”. She said scientists from the US and the Russian Federation will work together to “explore Antarctica’s terrain, study the effects of climate change, and cooperate on a range of issues to better understand and protect our shared environment”.
