There have been over 200 mass shootings in the US so far this year—more than one a day on average. Whether the killings in Uvalde, Texas, on 24 May, in which two teachers and 19 children were murdered, will tip the scales in favour of stronger gun control remains to be seen.
Guns are part of life in the US. One consequence of that was highlighted by a 2017 Pew Research study which estimated that nearly every American will know a victim of gun violence in their lifetime.
