Research into faculty career paths suggests academia may have an unacknowledged problem

With so much talk about equity in higher education, you could be forgiven for thinking that institutions must be making some progress in training, hiring and retaining faculty members from diverse backgrounds.

Unfortunately, increased awareness of diversity, equity and inclusion issues doesn’t necessarily translate into appreciable improvement, as a recent longitudinal study of 295,089 faculty members at US institutions demonstrates.
