Biden’s attempt to boost US technology may fall short unless Congress stumps up more cash

On 25 August 2022, US president Joe Biden put his signature to a law that promised good news for a swathe of American scientists.

The Chips and Science Act was the culmination of lengthy bipartisan negotiations to boost federal support for the US’s flagging semiconductor industry and lay the foundation for American leadership in various fields of technology.
