In depth:  A leading US politician has stepped up recent Republican criticism of the Department of Energy’s grant systems, saying they are causing “widespread confusion and potential damage”. Republican Frank Lucas (pictured) said the DoE had been “irresponsible” in announcing a $200 million award to the company Microvast last year only to withdraw it last month, in a missive that also raised the hot-button issue of R&D links to China.
