Lawmaker bids to reform satellite export legislation

The chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee has pledged to work to reform an aspect of US export control law that places all satellites on the US Munitions List.

Academic research groups have said the blanket statutory requirement for all satellites to be on the USML, even those that are dual-use and pose minimal national security risks, impedes important scientific work.
