Containment labs need standards, GAO says

There is a persistent lack of government oversight of the safety and research priorities of US high-containment laboratories, exacerbated by a lack of national standards, according to a report released by the congressional Government Accountability Office (GAO) on 25 March.

This deficiency may be more critical now than it was several years ago as budget constraints make prioritisation essential, the office says.
