NSF partners Japanese agency to reduce pesticide pollution

The US National Science Foundation (NSF) and the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) have jointly issued four three-year awards under a new programme that aims to reduce pesticide pollution and promote biofuel.

The four winning US-Japanese research teams, announced on 7 November, have received funding totalling about $12 million to develop “environmentally-friendly techniques to increase the production of renewable biofuel and reduce pesticide use,” which will be based on studies of metabolites, according to the joint NSF/JST news release.
