EPA moves to enhance chemical assessments

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) will improve its Integrated Risk Information System (IRIS), a publicly available online database that offers science-based human health assessments on more than 540 chemical substances, the agency announced on 12 July.

Paul Anastas, the assistant administrator of EPA’s Office of Research and Development, said intended improvements included making IRIS assessment documents shorter, clearer and more visual and concise.
