Undiagnosed Diseases Program halted after deluge of applications

The National Institutes of Health’s Undiagnosed Diseases Program (UDP) has been swamped with so many applications that from 1 July it has temporarily suspended accepting new applications for admission or new medical records.

As well as creating a substantial processing backlog, the volume of new applications has limited the staff’s ability to investigate the diagnoses of patients already seen by UDP physicians, according to NIH.
