DOD basic research plagued by ‘bureaucratic burden’

The Pentagon’s current basic research programme is “very good” but is plagued by red tape, including administration requirements, according to a report newly released from the Defense Science Board’s Basic Research Task Force.

The task force concluded that “unnecessary and unproductive bureaucratic burden” on basic researchers funded by the Department of Defense (DOD) “equates to reduction of the DOD basic research budget.”
