University groups oppose PTO proposal

A US Patent and Trademark Office (PTO) proposal to place economically significant patents under secrecy orders is being opposed by groups representing research universities.

In April, the PTO published a notice in the Federal Register seeking public comments on whether the US should identify certain patent applications as detrimental to national economic security and bar them from publication.
