The National Institutes of Health is inviting grant applications for research into violence, with particular focus on gun violence, in response to a directive from President Obama.
Obama said in January 2013 that science agencies should fund research into the causes and prevention of firearm violence. The NIH announced on 27 September that it will accept applications for such grants until fiscal year 2016, and specifically wants researchers to look at how violence relates to the health of individuals and communities.
“The goal is to identify evidence-based strategies for preventing violence, and to incorporate them into clinical and community settings,” the agency said.
