NIGMS gets new director

The newly appointed director of the National Institute of General Medical Sciences (NIGMS) Jon Lorsch, a professor at the Johns Hopkins University’s biophysics and biophysical chemistry department, is expected to assume his duties this summer.

“With his reputation of being a broad-minded and visionary thinker with strong management skills, I am confident that Jon will lead NIH’s basic science flagship to keep the US at the forefront of biomedical research,” said Francis Collins, the director of the National Institutes of Health, which is NIGMS’ parent agency.
