Coal research projects receive DoE backing

The United States Department of Energy is pouring almost $30 million into research on coal energy systems, and the use of coal to produce rare earth elements.

The department is offering two funding opportunities to support the development of advanced combustion systems and coal gasification as part of the Office of Fossil Energy’s Advanced Energy Systems program.

These initiatives make good on the election campaign promises made by President Donald Trump to support the shrinking US coal industry.
