Trump nominates banker for DOE science post

The White House wants to appoint investment banker Paul Dabbar to oversee the Department of Energy’s $5-billion research programs.

Dabbar manages mergers and acquisitions at the JP Morgan Chase bank. President Donald Trump’s administration emphasized Dabbar’s experience in overseeing energy investments at the bank when announcing his nomination on 11 July.

A White House statement said Dabbar has also conducted research during his time in the Navy aboard a nuclear submarine, and at the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory.
