Jim Bridenstine, the Republican congressman for Oklahoma will serve as NASA’s 13th administrator following a much-delayed confirmation by the United States Senate.
In a narrow 50:49 vote, the Senate approved president Donald Trump’s choice as the head of the space agency on 19 April, a year after Bridenstine was nominated.
Bridenstine resigned from the House of Representatives on 23 April and on the same day was sworn in as NASA’s 13th administrator by Mike Pence, vice-president and chairman of the recently revitalized National Space Council.
