NSF renews MagLab funding

The National Science Foundation has renewed its backing for the National High Magnetic Field Laboratory, increasing its investment by 9 percent compared with the previous funding period.

The funding agency announced it would spend $184 million over the next five years on the MagLab on 2 April. This brings the total NSF funding for the lab to $867m.

The facility, which hosts some of the world’s most powerful magnets, carries out materials research necessary for emerging technologies such as quantum computing.
