National Institutes of Health looked into lower success of African-American and other black applicants
A study by the United States National Institutes of Health has identified three reasons why grant applications to the funder from researchers who identify as African-American or black are less successful on average.
NIH staff analysed data relating to the agency’s R01 standard project grant. First, their work confirmed a previous finding that white applicants for these grants were 1.7 times as successful as AA/B applicants between 2000 and 2015.
