National Center for Education Statistics faces challenges to adapt to education changes, report says
Scientific academies have called for an overhaul of the US education statistics agency so it can better support policymaking amid changes within education, in particular the increasing diversity of the population.
The National Center for Education Statistics sits within the Department of Education and collects, analyses and disseminates statistics relating to all levels of US education. But at present it relies too heavily on external contractors and would benefit from building up its internal capacity, the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine also suggested in a report on the centre.
