White House unveils strategy for reducing greenhouse gases

Federal agencies to work together on new centre for data on greenhouse gas emissions

The Biden administration has published a strategy to monitor and reduce greenhouse gas emissions across the United States, as part of its plan for the US to meet its commitments to the 2015 Paris climate change agreement.

Under the agreement, nations around the world committed to try to keep global warming to below 1.5 degrees. This will be impossible unless countries rapidly curtail their emissions of greenhouse gases, including carbon dioxide and methane, which heat the planet by trapping energy from the sun.
