House science committee members probe handling of request for chemical safety review

Republicans on the House science committee have questioned the integrity of the Environmental Protection Agency, asking it to provide more information on why it chose not to review the safety of a chemical called chloroprene.

In March 2021, the EPA’s Region 6 Office sent a formal nomination for the EPA’s Office of Research and Development (ORD) to review the chemical, which is commonly used to make synthetic rubber, as it was last reviewed in 2010.
