Gerald Fink, a genetics professor and founding member of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Whitehead Institute, was named president-elect of the American Association for the Advancement of Science on 25 January.
Beyond his status as a pioneer researcher in the field of yeast molecular biology, Fink has also been active in science policy, including his work as chairman of the 2003 National Academy of Sciences committee that offered recommendations on how to address the threat of bioterrorism without jeopardising scientific progress.
