Lab safety group starts work

The Association of Public and Land-Grant Universities’ task force on laboratory safety met for the first time in early May to begin hearing testimonies from experts.

The APLU task force, created in April, hopes to come up with a strategy for laboratory safety, and resources including best practices and advice for universities and other institutions, by early 2016.

The 16-member group, which includes university professors and administrators, and representatives from the Eastman Chemical Company and the Oak Ridge National Laboratory, began by interviewing representatives from industry, academia and government institutions. It will continue this work for the rest of the summer.
