Bill to fund spinal injury research with traffic tickets vetoed

California’s Democratic Gov. Jerry Brown has vetoed legislation that would have added one dollar to every traffic ticket in California to fund University of California research into spinal cord injury.

Based on last year’s traffic tickets, the authors of the legislation, AB 1657, estimated that the proposed increase in revenue through traffic tickets could mean $3 million annually to support such research.
