Public research university funding threatened, says NSB

The National Science Board (NSB) is warning that declines in state funding threaten the ability of major public research universities to educate scientists and engineers, recruit and retain the best faculty and students, and continue performing top-quality research.

The 25 September report by NSB, the governing body of the National Science Foundation (NSF), concluded that state per-student funding for the 101 major public research universities fell by an average of 20 per cent in inflation-adjusted dollars between 2002 and 2010.
