The Johns Hopkins University (JHU) has received a $350 million gift from philanthropist and New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg to anchor “a major initiative aimed at bringing significant innovation to US higher education”, the university announced on 26 January.
The bulk of the donation, $250m, will be part of a larger effort to raise $1 billion to facilitate cross-disciplinary and transformational work across the university to address “a set of complex global challenges”.
