Record $400m gift to Harvard engineering

An unrestricted $400-million donation to support faculty, research and students at the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences (SEAS) is the largest in Harvard University’s history.

“John Paulson’s extraordinary gift will enable the growth and ensure the strength of engineering and applied sciences at Harvard for the benefit of generations to come,” said Harvard University president Drew Faust. The school will be renamed after Paulson, a hedge fund manager and Harvard alumnus.

Paulson said his endowment would support faculty development, research and financial aid for students. The school is also planning to expand its footprint from Harvard’s main campus in Cambridge, Massachusetts, into the neighboring town of Allston.
