Fulbright scholars rally against cuts

Alumni of the prestigious Fulbright international exchange scheme have railed against a proposal to halve the programme’s budget.

Under United States president Donald Trump’s plans for 2018, the Fulbright scheme’s budget will be slashed by 47 per cent. This measure is part of a 55 per cent reduction in US spending on international education programmes and exchanges.

The Fulbright Association has put out a rallying cry for its alumni to lobby politicians against the cuts and prevent the exchange scheme from being “diminished beyond recognition”.
