Disabled researchers paid less in US, study finds

Analysis of Stem PhD holders also finds underrepresentation of disabled researchers in higher academic roles

Holders of scientific doctorates who have had a disability from before the age of 25 earn $14,360 less per year in US academia than those without a disability, according to a study.

It also found that PhD graduates in science, technology, engineering and mathematics who have a disability are underrepresented in higher academic positions, such as dean and president, and are less likely to have a tenured position, which guarantees a professor their job until they retire.
