The White House announced the creation of a national science, technology, engineering and maths Master Teacher Corps programme on 17 July, in the latest Obama Administration effort to bolster STEM education.
The $1 billion initiative, which will be launched from the president’s fiscal year 2013 budget request currently before Congress, will begin with 50 exceptional STEM teachers in 50 sites. It will be expanded over four years to reach 10,000 “master teachers”.
