IPCC report welcomed by Obama’s science advisers

Officials in the Obama administration have publicly endorsed the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change’s conclusion that the human contribution to climate change is clear.

The United States joined other member nations of the IPCC in approving the panel’s fifth assessment report on 27 September.

In its report, the IPCC, which is sponsored by the UN, concluded: “It is extremely likely that human influence has been the dominant cause of the warming observed since the mid-20th century.” The panel said the evidence for this has grown due to more and better observations, an improved understanding of the climate system response and improved climate models.
