Industry pushes back against Biden’s landmark speech

Chemical and drug companies say US regulations are stifling materials and pharmaceuticals research

Industry groups have criticised policies being enacted by the administration of US president Joe Biden, pushing back against his characterisation of elements of his presidency in his annual State of the Union address.

In his speech on 7 March, Biden said that the US was “investing more in R&D than ever before” thanks to the Chips and Science Act, which authorised spending on semiconductors as well as other research and innovation.
