Rankings drive Australian strategy to succeed in Asia
Australia wants to get 10 of the country’s universities into the world’s top 100 by 2025 to become more attractive to Asian students, according to a white paper published last month. The white paper also sets out plans to boost the teaching of Asian languages in schools, introduce mandatory Asia-related curricula, create stronger research links with countries in the region, and get more students to undertake part of their degrees in Asia. Australia had five universities in the top 100 of the Academic Ranking of World Universities 2012, or Shanghai ranking, to which the paper refers.
