Canada’s learned society finds restrictions on government scientist ‘unreasonable’

The Royal Society of Canada is considering taking action to protect the freedom of speech of government-employed scientists after an open letter written by its president received widespread backing.

Yolande Grisé declared in her letter, published in two Canadian newspapers on 4 January, that in Canada “unreasonable limits are being placed on the ability of government-employed scientists to communicate their findings”.
