A planned declaration on post-2015 Sustainable Development Goals must include an explicit reference to the role of science and technology, global science academies have said.
In recommendations issued before a meeting on 21 April, the International Council for Science, the International Social Science Council and the Future Earth initiative said that a reference to science and technology was one of the most important requirements. They also called for the declaration to recognise their role in ensuring that science plays a leading part in the post-2015 agenda.
The post-2015 declaration, to be adopted by the UN later this year, will set targets for 2030 to replace the Millennium Development Goals.
